On Sunday May 23, 2021 hundreds of people dressed in their best jackets and ties and safely gathered outdoors at OC Motorcycle for this year’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR). The annual motorcycle ride, in partnership with Movember (the world’s largest men’s health organization) and sponsored by Triumph Motorcycles, aims to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.
The event started at OC Motorcycle with some local So Cal Highside Coffee and doughnuts. Eric Morley from Blue C Advertising kicked off the event with a speech about DGR and its importance, and Martin Majano from North Menswear talked about the cause: raising money and awareness for men’s health. Jagger, a young boy battling brain cancer, was named the grand marshal of the event.
Here at Somnu Medias we hold philanthropy in very high regard; as we owe much of our success & personal fulfillment to our previous philanthropic efforts. That said, for this year's DGR our Somnu Medias team attended the event dapperly dressed for the occasion, and our cameras came along for our first ever Distinguished Gentleman's Ride! We used our creative skills to help bring attention to the incredible cause.
Peter Markel, our founder, went live on @ocmotorcycle’s Instagram and we had some dedicated viewers tune into the stream. Meanwhile, Spencer Cook, our Director of Creative Production, spent the event taking amazing photos of the riders, capturing the joy and fun of DGR in each shot. Talia Cuttitta, our Creative Producer, filmed and edited the sizzle video showcasing the event and Hannah Nelson, our Social Media Account Manager, optimized the DGR posts to increase awareness of the event and bring attention to the cause.
After some mingling, people hopped on their bikes, revved their engines, and started the ride. We followed the riders in Peter’s car, with Spencer and Talia almost halfway out of the window capturing the riders as they zoomed past us. This might or might not have been against the rules, but it was totally worth it. The ride’s first stop was at Wahoo’s Fish Taco in Huntington Beach, where people had some refreshments from sponsors like Hint Water and California Love Drop. Then the group rode to Guac Amigos in Newport Beach, where they enjoyed some delicious Mexican food and drinks. A few people also visited Kempt Hair's pop-up barber shop to elevate their dapper looks.
However, the best part of the event wasn’t only the dapper looks, but the connections that people made along the way. It was clear that the riders were excited to relive the DGR experience through the photos and videos that we captured. Comments and likes poured in following the days after the event, strengthening the camaraderie among the community and emphasizing importance of men’s health. The event managed to raise more than $18,000 for the cause, and we are truly grateful to have been a part of the ride. We can’t wait for next year!
